She has led from inside the system.

Most people who advise on leadership and organizational change have studied it. Dr. Michelle S. Charles has lived it as one of the most senior public sector leaders in Saint Lucia, leading complex national systems through reform, pressure, and change.
That experience shapes everything about the way she works.

Dr. Michelle S. Charles,

Dr. Michelle S. Charles works with leaders, organizations and institutions that are serious about closing the gap between intention and impact. Her approach is grounded in something most consultants cannot claim: she has done the work herself – not as an observer, but as a senior leader navigating real complexity inside real systems.
WHO SHE IS
With more than two decades of experience spanning public policy, education systems and organizational strategy, Dr. Charles brings a rare combination of academic rigour and genuine operational experience to her practice.
She served as Permanent Secretary in Saint Lucia’s Ministry of Education, Innovation and Vocational Training — one of the most senior leadership roles in the country’s public service. In that position, she led national TVET reform, drove cross-sector collaboration and aligned institutional priorities with the demands of a rapidly changing labour market. Her work required navigating competing political, institutional and community interests while remaining focused on outcomes that mattered to real people.  She has contributed to regional and international conversations on TVET and workforce development, bringing the perspective of someone who has led reform from within, not just studied it from the outside.
WHAT SHE DOES
Through The Alignment Practice, Dr. Charles works across three connected areas: Leadership Alignment, for leaders who need greater clarity, self-awareness and intentionality; Workforce & Systems Alignment, for institutions grappling with the gap between skills development and real labour market outcomes; and Organizational Alignment, for teams and organizations where strategy exists but execution keeps slipping.

HER APPROACH

Dr. Charles does not arrive with a pre-packaged answer. Every engagement begins with careful listening – to understand where misalignment actually lives before proposing how to address it.
Her practice brings together three things that are rarely found in one person: the rigour of doctoral research, the practical intelligence of someone who has led complex public institutions and the human attentiveness that develops through years of working closely with leaders under genuine pressure. The result is work that moves people and the organizations they lead – from understanding to changed behaviour, from good intentions to real execution.
At the centre of her leadership work is the LUMEN Framework – a reflective model she developed through years of practice and research, built on the conviction that lasting leadership change grows from the inside out.

Why this work, why now.

After years inside the system, Dr. Charles saw the same challenge repeating itself across organizations and institutions: not a lack of talent, not a lack of intention, but a persistent, costly misalignment between people, leadership, and the structures meant to support them.
Not a side offering. Not a module in a broader programme. A practice built entirely around the work of closing that gap.
“If you are working to strengthen leadership, align your systems, or build an organization capable of delivering on what it promises, this is where that work begins.”

— Dr. Michelle S. Charles,

Most organizations do not fall behind because of a lack of talent or resources. They struggle because their people, leadership, and systems are not working in the same direction. At The Alignment Practice, the consulting philosophy and approach is built around one core belief: sustainable performance is only possible when individuals, teams, and structures are genuinely aligned.
The work draws on an executive advisory background built across public sector institutions, NGOs, and leadership programs throughout the Caribbean and beyond.
No two organizations face identical challenges. Every engagement begins with a clear understanding of what is actually happening before any solution is proposed.
